Ruttger's Bay Lake Resort

Very family friendly resort and accommodating to our requests/needs. I made a mistake and had double booked our room earlier this year. Dana was very helpful. We played phone tag for a bit after we had checked out and returned home. She made it right and left a voicemail saying she refunded the extra charge we had because of our mistake. The fireworks on the lake for the 4th were fantastic. We will be back!

Ruttgers, for us, is about nostalgia, comfort and relaxation. We have been here several times throughout the years, including our honeymoon, 36 years ago, twice when our kids were younger, two years ago and again this year. We are always excited to participate in the various activities that they have planned like family game nights, campfire and s'mores, pontoon boat rides, free use of kayaks and paddle boards, Bingo nights etc. The dining room, Ruby's, is gorgeous with big wooden beams throughout. The buffet breakfast in delicious with 5-6 different kinds of berries, several delicious baked items and a plethora of hot dishes which change on a daily basis. We also ate one supper here and it was tasty and service was friendly and fast. This place isn't perfect. It's a huge, older resort and maintenance is tough to keep up in every area. There are many areas that could use a paint job or a makeover, but when we come, the fun and atmosphere more than make up for the areas that need some maintenance. Having an entire cabin to ourselves facing the lake was beautiful and we can see that they are trying as there was new furniture in the room, and when we called about a problem, the staff were there quickly to fix it. The outdoor pool is closed this summer, but that is clearly stated on the web page so it wasn't a surprise. They still had the lake with lots of inflatables and an indoor pool and hot tub. We had a family reunion here and out of 6 families-not one of us got what we booked. We called-all out of state-11 months in advance for 4th of July week. August 2023 is when we called to book for July 2024. We asked that all of our accommodations be next to each other and told them we would be cooking all of our meals, and so we needed to have a few of them at least have kitchens, and all of them have full size fridges. When we went to check, we found out that half of us had been put on one side of the resort and the other half on the other side of the resort. The half of us that got put on the far side of the resort, all the oldest cabins they have. they were covered in hair and smelled like ashtrays. When we went to the front to request to be put near our family like we had requested, we were told there was nothing available on the entire resort, no apologies were given no discounts offered no can we please send our cleaning staff over there to take care of that for you. Absolutely nothing was offered to take care of the dirty or the smell or the fact that we had requested rooms with a partial kitchen so that we could prepare our own on food. They told us that instead we could just eat at the restaurant which is highly overpriced and didn’t offer any sort of discount for that either. The fridges in the rooms ended up being so small you couldn’t fit more than a handful of sodas in them. I had to go buy a mini fridge and freezer and multiple coolers to house the food that we each needed for the week. Our dad did get a nicer accommodation however when they booked, they said they definitely needed a washer and dryer because a handful of us were road tripping and there was no washer and dryer and they wouldn’t give them a room with one because they were all booked. They did tell us that they had coin operated washing machines and two coin operated dryers on property, but that was it so they recommended us driving the 30 minutes in either direction to go to a laundromat. Every single day we had something that was ridiculous and that they just didn’t care about. My dad rented a pontoon-it needed work everyday in order to use it. I cannot believe people come here and go every single year. I went to the Front asked if I could talk to TJ the owner. I was told he was not on property and that I couldn’t talk to him or have his contact information, even though multiple staff members around the resort suggested reaching out to him because of our awful experience. The parking lots were taken over by locals on the night of fireworks-we couldn’t even park near the resort because of the cars and people covering every space off the roads-I think it’s great that the locals come to watch their firework show, but they should have staff that make sure that the guests staying at their resort are not impeded by it. or at least given warning so that we had known to stay parked in front of our accommodations and told to find a spot early so that we could actually wat

First time at the resort, we had a room in the main lodge as we were here just one night on our way back to the cities. Our room was good sized, on the main floor. We had our meals in Ruby's and enjoyed the food and service very much. Our server at dinner was great, and very helpful in dealing with a gluten allergy. The resort is quite large, located on the lake, with a great swimming area for families, boats for rent, etc. As to the room, it was very clean with attractive bedding (duvet but not too warm for summer conditions), good quality "up-North" furniture that was in excellent repair and a great armchair for reading. Negatives were a very uncomfortable bed prompting a partial night sleeping on the floor for one of us, noisy air conditioning, and limited TV service (by contemporary standards). Soundproofing between our room and the second floor wasn't very good. We couldn't find a way to plug in our Firestick and made do with books, which was fine for one night. All in all, this looks like a great family resort, but I would pick one of the many cabins on the grounds for a family gathering. The resort had a very large, youthful staff and everyone was super-friendly.

Rutgers is an old school traditional nothwoods rfamily resort. I’ve stayed there 3 times in the past year so yes I would recommend it. TheVillas on the Bay are lovely u nits. I cannot say the same for the condo units on North Bay. (On the golf course). They are tiny and old. I would not recommend them. Crosby is a nearby cute small town with some nice shops and a good brewery.

We are residents on the lake and have always felt welcome at Ruttgers. Saturday night we took the family on the boat over for dinner. The boat slips are easy to dock and we made our way to the deck for dinner. To our delight we met a friend whose nephew was playing guitar on the deck. Some great country classics, played at a decibel level where we could still talk. The remodeled deck, food and service was wonderful. We drove home to a setting sun for a perfect evening. The new log siding and Black Exterior Andersen windows are a home run! Looks great Ruttgers.

We had a peaceful weekend, and the northern lights were beautiful. We went to the spa, shopping, relaxing in the hot tub and walks along the beach. The Mother's Day brunch was delicious! Thank you to the Ruttger's staff for the hospitality and kindness.

There was no staff on site when I stayed onsite on a Tuesday during March. The TV didn't work. Tried calling the main desk and no one answered since they didn't staff the desk. Lot was not plowed. Complex I stayed in was unlocked and no other guests were around. Felt very alone and no one to help.

We booked a mini vacation to snow shoe. Unfortunately, there wasn't any snow but there are many great hiking trails nearby. Everyone at Ruttger's was friendly and helpful. The staff was great from the time we made our reservations to checkout. Our villa was beautiful. Everything was spotless. It was very comfortable. I highly recommend the Blueberry French Toast in the White Oak Grill.
